How to bathe a baby in a bathtub

  1. Step1

Fill the tub with lukewarm water. Test the water on the inside of your wrist or your elbow to make sure that it is not too hot. If your child is able to sit up, the water should come near his waist.

  2. Step2

Place your child in the tub by holding him firmly underneath the armpits. If your child is unable to sit up on his own, keep one hand firmly tucked underneath his armpit so that he will not slip under the water.

  3. Step3

Begin washing your baby. Use a small amount of baby soap on a washcloth and wash one leg at a time, her tummy (avoiding any contact with the umbilical cord area if it has not healed), the neck and behind the ears. Rinse the washcloth and squeeze out excess water (making the washcloth damp). Use the damp washcloth to gently wipe her face. Again, rinse the washcloth, squeeze out excess water and begin to wipe her down, removing all traces of soap on her body.

  4. Step4

Remove your baby from the tub. Place both of your hands underneath his armpits and lift him out of the bathtub. Make sure that you have a firm grip on your child since the water will cause his body to be slippery.

  5. Step5

Wrap your baby in a small towel and begin to gently dry her off.
